Villa have lost their past four Premier League fixtures, with consecutive defeats to Tottenham, Wolves, Arsenal and West Ham.

Dean Smith’s side are only three points off the relegation zone and are in dire need of a victory before the international break.

Meanwhile, Southampton came away from Vicarage Road with all three points last time out, thanks to a 1-0 win against Watford, following on from a home draw against Burnley.

Villa beat Saints 1-0 when the sides last met, at St Mary’s, in January, courtesy of a goal from Ross Barkley.
