Each week, OTF aggregates the power rankings and visits with the MLS pundits to see what they say about our Chicago Fire…

HIT THE MUSIC!!!

Aggregate = 13.2/19 ( -0.5 from last week)

ESPN FC  (11)

“Mike Magee continued his magical season, scoring his 13th goal in the Fire’s road draw against Houston. Paolo Tornaghi delivered some impressive saves and kept the Fire on the fringes of the playoff race.”

Fringes indeed. Hang on for your dear lives, Fire Nation.

MLSsoccer.com (12)

“The Fire still haven’t beaten a team in a playoff spot, but a draw on the road against a team above you in the standings is almost always a good result.”

Key word? Almost.

Soccer America (13)

“Houston could have won three in a row for the first time this season by beating Chicago at home, but a minute after Cam Weaver provided a 1-0 lead Mike Magee equalized with his 13th goal of the season that tied him with Camilo for the league lead. The game ended 1-1.”

“Coulda, woulda, shoulda,” rings true for the Fire as well.

NBC Sports Pro Soccer Talk (13)

“Mike Magee’s 13th goal kept him tied for the league lead in scoring, and provided the important second-half equalizer in a 1-1 draw in Houston.”

Strangely matter of fact, Steve Davis.

Yahoo! Sports (15)

“A draw in Houston is a fine result, but Chicago drops in the MLS power rankings due to several other sides picking up wins this past Saturday.”

Yahoo no longer gives the Fire the benefit of the doubt. This August, they probably won’t be the last.

Bleacher Report (15)

“The magic of Mike Magee could only propel the Fire to a draw on the road in Houston. Magee’s 63rd-minute equalizer helped Chicago breach the fortress known as BBVA Compass Stadium. With the goal, Magee once again caught up with Camilo Sanvezzo for the lead in the Golden Boot race. Both players now have 13 goals this season.”

Let’s not forget, Chicago got magic from Patrick Nyarko and Paolo Tornaghi too.

Note: Sports Illustrated sat out this week.

  1. MLSsoccer.com is wrong. The Fire beat the Red Bulls and Rapids earlier this year. Still it’s pathetic that we only have two wins against playoff teams and both are at home.

What do you think?
