U.S. Open Cup Regional Qualifying Action in Chitown
Storied Chicago club RWB Adria takes on Milwaukee’s Croatian Eagles in the first round of USASA’s Midwest Region Open Cup Tournament. Join OTF Editor Scott Fenwick on Chicago’s south side for all the action this Saturday afternoon!
Believe it or not, it’s that USOC time of year again. Across the nation, top amateur sides are already fighting it out for berths in the U.S. Open Cup tournament. For Chicagoans, the action starts this weekend and Saturday’s match is arguably the best our region has to offer.
In a rematch of last season’s US Adult Soccer Association Region II first-round contest, Chicago’s own RWB Adria will host rival Milwaukee club Croatian Eagles at the beautiful, state-of-the-art Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in Chicago’s West Pullman neighborhood.
Both recent national champions (NSL, USASA), Adria and the Eagles are talented, hard-working sides manned by veterans and young players alike. Spectators should expect a highly competitive clash when these two clubs hit the pitch, and a battle to the bitter end.
Saturday’s winner advances to the USASA Region II Semifinals on April 20th. Semifinal winners earn berths in the 100th Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup competition.
Thanks to a bit of good fortune, I’ve been granted the opportunity to cover the match for thecup.us, the only website dedicated to full coverage of our most storied domestic tournament. Chicago Fire fans are well versed in the Cup’s significance and are understandably proud of their club’s four trophies. So come join me on Saturday to see where it all begins, free of charge.
